What Is Mindset?

I feel like so many people throw around the term “mindset” but don’t really explain how our mindsets are connected to our unique persons, helping us overcome challenges, break through our roadblocks, and go after our dreams.

Neurodivergent Type A entrepreneurs are often so focused on the steps to run a business that they need to track the tools they need to help them overcome an obstacle or challenge. All entrepreneurs will experience an obstacle or a challenge at some point (or many points) in their business, so why not have a plan?

Why not work on your mindset now so that when problems pop up, you can face them head-on without fear or anxiety that you are ill-equipped to handle them?

Growth vs. Fixed Mindset

So much of who we are is related to the mindsets we hold. How we react to our experiences is directly connected to our mindset. An entrepreneur with a growth mindset will have an easier time overcoming a failed product launch than one with a fixed mindset.

Growth Mindset

A growth mindset embraces challenges, pushes forward in the face of obstacles or setbacks, and views their effort as the path to mastering their problems. This kind of outlook is especially valuable for those of us who are neurodivergent because we are always coming up against unique obstacles in traditional business environments. By believing in our ability to develop and improve, neurodivergent entrepreneurs can turn their distinctive cognitive approaches (i.e., our unique character traits and quirks) into powerful assets.

Fixed Mindset

A fixed mindset is exactly what it sounds like: rigid. Neurodivergent entrepreneurs with fixed mindsets have difficulty adapting to their surroundings, making traditional business environments incredibly uncomfortable. Fixed mindsets also struggle to overcome challenges and obstacles because they are so focused on “the way things should be” that they can’t focus on how things could be if they just give a little wiggle room.

Where do you land on the mindset spectrum? Are you fixed, mostly fixed, or do you have a solid growth mindset? Not sure? Take my Mindset Assessment to find out!

Just remember that mindsets, even fixed mindsets, can be changed. It’s just going to take a little elbow grease!
